VIRGINITY CONCEPTS AROUND THE WORLD
The term “virgin” comes from the Latin virgo or a girl, a virgin. This term also has close links with the term Virga, which means new, young twigs or branches that are not shaped. Virginity, this term sounds so blunt and vulgar. When someone asks or mentions “You are a virgin or not”, it is indeed a statement or question that will bother you. However, forget about this.
Let’s see some views about virginity. In some parts of the world, the concept of virginity has the meaning of each.
- There is a culture that considers a woman who is not married is still a virgin, even though she was a prostitute. Only when she was a married woman she is considered to lose his virginity. Although for many years a woman becomes a prostitute, when she got married she is treated as a virgin, dressed in white, and showing himself in front of her husband with so innocent and pure.
- At the other world, a married woman without children is a virgin. Virginity is lost only when the first child born through the vaginal canal.Virginity is not lost because of having sex, but by becoming a mother. So every woman with no children, although often having sex, she is still a virgin.
- Among people who are afraid of the myth of blood on the first night, the blood has a long story and quite a negative connotation. A man would marry a woman only after her hymen broken by having sex with a stranger. Employment of foreigners is considered difficult, and men who do so will be considered brave because he accept the danger of contacting with blood.
- A married woman whose virginity was taken by a guardian means to prove to her husband that he was more pure and more virgin than ever before. Therefore having sex with her guardian is not harmful.
- A woman in the Western world would still be considered a virgin until she had sexual intercourse, oral or anal sex with men, either she is a single or married woman. And that we still hold to this day. Even in the middle east.
